DB2 Integration Enhancements
The DB2 integration agent has been enhanced to deliver the following new features:
• Supporting DB2 version 9.x APIs
• Provides a mechanism to include/exclude archive logs in the backup image
• Partitioned database support for Windows, HP-UX and Linux
• Redirected restore of databases which use the Automatic Storage option of DB2
These features wil be delivered through the Data Protector General Release patches for DB2
integration: DPWIN_00485 /PHSS_41665 /PHSS_41666 / DPLNX_00138 / DPSOL_00432 or
superseding patches.
Support for DB2 version 9.x APIs
The Data Protector DB2 agent is enhanced to support DB2 version 9.x APIs. After applying the
above mentioned General Release Patches, integrate DB2 with Data Protector and create backup
specifications, if a backup specification does not exist for that instance already. If a backup
specification already exists, run the util_db2 utility with the -CONFIG option as shown below,
before starting backups.
For Widnows:
For HP-UX, Linux and AIX:
Note:
typically:
"C:\Program Files\OmniBack" for Windows and
“/opt/omni/lbin” for HP-UX, Linux, and AIX platforms
If the customer is running DB2 V8 instances, the customer can choose to invoke version 8.x APIs
using the omnirc variable OB2_DB2_VERSION. If the omnirc variable OB2_DB2_VERSION is set
to 8 (OB2_DB2_VERSION=8), then DB2 V8 APIs wil be used by the DB2 agent. If this variable is
not set or set to 9 (OB2_DB2_VERSION=9), then DB2 v9 APIs will be used.
Including and excluding of archive logs in the backup image
The DB2 versions which are below 9.x always excluded the archive logs during backup. From
DB2 9.x onwards, the archive logs are included by default as part of backup image. This could
result in an increase in backup image size and other unhandled conditions. To maintain the
compatibility, a new omnirc variable OB2_DB2INCLDLOGS has been introduced to
include/exclude archive logs in the backup image. By default, the logs are excluded from the
backup image. If you want to include the logs into the backup image, set OB2_DB2INCLDLOGS
to 1. To revert back, set OB2_DB2INCLDLOGS to 0 (OB2_DB2INCLDLOGS=0), then archive
logs will be excluded from the backup image.
Please note, including logs in the backup image (that is, OB2_DB2INCLDLOGS=1) is not allowed
with DB2 version 9.1 for partitioned databases.
Partitioned database support on Windows
To backup and restore partitioned databases on Windows clients, do the following:
