Old electrical and electronic equipment should be recycled at a facility capable of handling these items and their waste by- products. Contact your local authority for details in locating a recycle facility nearest to you. Proper recycling and waste disposal will help conserve resources whilst preventing detrimental effects on our health and the environment. Accessories Speaker wire 4.5 m (14.5 ft) Caution : Read this item carefully to keep your safety. 1. Suff ocation - After taking the unit out of the polyethylene bag, be sure to dispose of the polyethylene bag out of the reach of children. Otherwise, they may play with the bag, which could cause hazard of suff ocation. 2. Water and moisture - Do not place a liquid container, such as a vase and water basin, on the appliance. Also avoid installing the unit in a place subject to dampness. 3. Heat - Do not install the unit near a source of heat, such as radiators, or under direct sunlight. 4. Modifi cation - Do not attempt to open or modify the unit, for this could cause fire hazard or malfunction. 5. Cleaning - Do not use volatile solvents such as alcohol, paint thinner, gasoline, or benzine, etc. to clean the cabinet. Use a clean dry cloth. 6. Abnormal smell - If an abnormal smell or smoke is detected, immediately turn the power OFF and unplug the appliance from the wall outlet. Contact your dealer or nearest service center. Note on operation 1. The nominal impedance of the speaker system is 8 ohms. Before using the system, check the specifications of your amplifier and receiver to confirm that they accept a load impedance of 8 ohms. 2. The peak input power that is allowed to be input to this speaker system is 120 W. If an excessive power is applied to the speakers, the audio quality may be deteriorated or malfunction may occur. In addition, heat generation may rise the temperature of the tweeters and the surroundings, causing burns to persons touching them. Take special care in the following points when using the system. • Even when the output power of the amplifier in use is lower than the maximum allowable input power of the speaker system, increasing the volume too much will distort the amplifier output and causes an excessive input to the system. Be sure not to increase the amplifi er volume too much. • Do not increase the amplifier volume too much while the low- and/or high-frequency levels are enhanced with the tone controls (BASS, TREBLE) or loudness control of the amplifi er. • Avoid applying continuously the inter-station noise in FM broadcasting or a special signal (one containing harmonics, etc.) such as that generated during fast forwarding of tape to the speaker system. • Minimize the amplifier volume when changing a switch position or placing a stylus on an analog disc. Installation On the floor or shelf Place the speakers on the floor or on a shelf or other horizontal stable surface. Keep in mind that speakers are not fi xed into place, so be careful to avoid knocking them over. About using speakers near a TV This speaker include magnetic shielding and can therefore be installed close to a TV set. Note, however, that placing the speaker too close to a CRT type TV may in some cases produce distortion in the color reception. In such case, turn on the TV and check that color reproduction is normal. If color is distorted, turn the TV off for 15 to 30 minutes, then turn it back on and check again. (This allows the TV's degaussing circuitry to correct for the magnetic fi eld from the speakers.) If distortion is still present, move the speakers further from the TV. • If there is a source of magnetism, including a magnet, is located in the proximity, its interaction with the speaker may produce color irregularities on the TV screen. Be careful of the installation layout. • Due to induction by electromagnetic waves generated from the TV set, the speakers may generate noise even when the power switch of the stereo system is set to OFF. In this case, install the TV set and speaker system at a larger distance. Connections Each speaker of this speaker system can be connected to either the left or right output channel of the amplifi er. CAUTION Be sure to turn off your amplifier before connecting or disconnecting speakers. Reversal of sides or polarities may result in unnatural, incorrectly positioned sound. Maintenance Maintenance of the unit When the speaker cabinets get dirty, wipe with the provided cleaning cloth or with any soft, dry cloth. Do not use thinner, benzine, alcohol, etc. for these agents may cause discoloration. In regard to contact cleaner Do not use contact cleaners because it could cause a malfunction. Be specially careful not to use contact cleaners...
