Do not connect the mains lead until you reach “Step 5: Connecting the Mains Lead” (page 20). VCR-DVD recorder TV to AERIAL OUT to AERIAL IN Aerial cable (supplied) Hookups and Settings : Signal flow 1 Disconnect the aerial cable from your TV and connect it to AERIAL IN on the rear panel of the recorder. 2 Connect AERIAL OUT of the recorder to the aerial input of your TV, using the supplied aerial cable. Step 3: Connecting to Your TV Connecting to the LINE 2 OUT jacks Connect the supplied audio/video cord to the LINE 2 OUT (VIDEO/AUDIO L/R) jacks of the recorder. To enjoy higher quality images, connect an S video cord (not supplied) instead of the yellow (video) plug. When using this connection, be sure to connect the audio cord to the LINE 2 OUT (AUDIO L/R) jacks. INPUT S VIDEO TV or projector AUDIO INPUT R L VIDEO (red) (white) (yellow) VCR-DVD recorder Audio/video cord (supplied) to LINE 2 OUT (VIDEO/AUDIO L/R) (yellow) (white) (red) to S VIDEO OUT S video cord (not supplied) : Signal flow When playing “wide screen” images Some recorded images may not fit your TV screen. To change the picture size, see page 102. Notes • Do not connect to the S VIDEO OUT and yellow LINE 2 OUT (VIDEO) jacks at the same time. • During DVD recording, you cannot watch VHS pictures by pressing VIDEO, as the S VIDEO OUT jack will output DVD video signals only. • Do not connect your TV’s audio output jacks to the LINE 2 IN (AUDIO L/R) jacks at the same time. This will cause unwanted noise to come from your TV’s speakers. Connecting to the SCART jack Connect to the LINE 1-TV jack using a SCART cord (not supplied). Be sure to make the connections firmly to avoid hum and noise. See the operating instructions supplied with the TV to be connected. When you use this connection, select “Video” or “RGB” for the Line 1 output setting in step 14 of Easy Hookups and Settings Setup (page 23). SCART INPUT TV or projector SCART cord (not supplied) VCR-DVD recorder to i LINE 1-TV : Signal flow Note When you connect the recorder to your TV via the SCART jacks, the TV’s input source is set to the recorder automatically when you turn the recorder on. If necessary, press TV/VIDEO on the remote to return the input to the TV (page 21). ,continued If your TV has an HDMI input jack Connect the HDMI* OUT jack using a certified HDMI cord (not supplied). You will enjoy high quality picture and sound. The HDMI indicator lights up on the front panel when the recorder outputs signals through the HDMI OUT jack. Be sure to turn off the recorder before connecting an HDMI cord. Notes • You cannot connect the HDMI OUT jack to DVI jacks that are not HDCP compliant (e.g., DVI jacks on PC displays). • During DVD recording, you cannot watch VHS pictures by pressing VIDEO, as the HDMI OUT jack will output DVD video signals only. If your TV has component video input jacks Connect to the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jacks using a component video cord (not supplied) or three video cords (not supplied) of the same kind and length. You will enjoy accurate colour reproduction and high quality images. When you use this connection, select “On” for the component out setting in step 10 of Easy Setup (page 23). If your TV accepts progressive 525p/625p format signals, you must use this connection and then set “Progressive” to “On” in the “Video” setup (page 104). When using this connection, be sure to connect the audio cord to the LINE 2 OUT (AUDIO L/R) jacks. Step 4: Connecting to Your AV Amplifier (Receiver) Select one of the following patterns A or B, according to the input jack on your AV amplifier (receiver). This will enable you to listen to sound through your AV amplifier (receiver). When you use this connection, select the type of jack you are using in step 16 of Easy Setup (page 23).
