3. Place the hard-drive brackets in position. 4. Replace the two screws (one on each side) that secure the hard-drive brackets to the hard drive. 5. Slide the hard-drive assembly into the hard-drive bay. 6. Replace the two screws that secure the hard-drive assembly to the drive panel. 7. If you are replacing the primary hard-drive, connect the power and data cables to the primary hard drive. 1 primary hard-drive assembly 2 data cable 3 power cable 4 screws (2) 1 secondary hard-drive assembly 2 data cable 3 power cable 4 screws (2) 1 hard drive 2 screws (2) 3 hard-drive bracket 8. If you are replacing the secondary hard-drive: a. Connect the power cable to the primary and secondary hard-drives. b. Connect the data cable to the secondary hard-drive. 9. Replace the computer cover (see Replacing the Computer Cover). 10. Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and then turn them on. 11. See the documentation that shipped with the hard drive for instructions on installing any software required for drive operation. 12. Check the System Setup for drive configuration changes (see System Setup). Optical Drive Removing the Optical Drive 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the computer cover (see Removing the Computer Cover). 3. Remove the front bezel (see Removing the Front Bezel). 4. If you are removing the primary optical-drive, disconnect the power and data cables from the primary optical-drive. 5. If you are removing the secondary optical-drive: a. Disconnect the power cable from the primary and secondary optical- drives. b. Disconnect the data cable from the secondary optical-drive. 6. Remove the two screws that secure the optical drive to the chassis. 7. Push and slide the optical drive out through the front of the computer. Primary Optical Drive Secondary Optical Drive NOTE: If you are not replacing the optical drive at this time, disconnect the other end of the data cable from the system board connector and set it aside. You can use the data cable to install an optical drive at a later time. 1 power cable 2 data cable 3 primary optical-drive 4 screws (2) 8. Set aside the optical drive in a secure location. Replacing the Optical Drive 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the screw from the old optical drive and insert it in the new optical drive. 3. To install a secondary optical drive, pull the break-away metal plate away from the chassis. 1 power cable 2 data cable 3 secondary optical-drive 4 screws (2) 1 screw 4. Gently slide the optical drive into the optical drive bay through the front of the computer. 5. Align the screw holes on the optical drive with the screw holes on the chassis. 6. Replace the two screws that secure the optical drive to the chassis. 7. If you are replacing the primary optical-drive, connect the power and data cables to the primary optical-drive. 8. If you are replacing the secondary optical-drive: a. Connect the power cable to the primary and secondary optical- drives. b. Connect the data cable to the secondary optical-drive. 9. Replace the front bezel (see Replacing the Front Bezel). 10. Replace the computer cover (see Replacing the Computer Cover). 11. Connect your computer and devices to electrical outlets, and turn them on. 12. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Remove the computer cover (see Removing the Computer Cover). 3. Disconnect the chassis fan cable from the system board connector, FAN_SYS1 (see System Board Components). 4. Remove the four screws that secure the chassis fan to the chassis. 5. Slide and lift the chassis fan away from the computer as shown in the illustration. Replacing the Chassis Fan 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Align the screw holes on the chassis fan with the screw holes on the chassis. 3. Replace the four screws that secure the chassis fan to the chassis.
