Resumen del manual

1 Overview
This section provides an overview of the Open SCSI for Fibre Channel controller and
how to interface with devices supplied by third-party integrators.
The Open SCSI Interface
The Open SCSI for Fibre Channel controller provides the hardware and software for a
SCSI-FC protocol over Fibre Channel interface that runs on NonStop NS-series
servers and to which developers can attach a single Fibre Channel device that uses
the small computer system interface (SCSI) protocol. The Open SCSI for Fibre
Channel controller includes these components and features.
Hardware
The FCSA in the I/O adapter module (IOAM) enclosure on the NonStop NS-series
server has two ports that allow connection to external, Fibre Channel enabled devices.
For port locations, see the Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter Installation and Support
Guide
. Manuals describing the IOAM enclosure and NonStop NS-series servers are
organized into several sets of manuals, which are fully described in the NonStop NS-
Series Planning Guide
.
Software
The external Open SCSI for Fibre Channel controller is an Open SCSI I/O process
(IOP), HP product number T8995. The IOP software supports passthrough from an
application to the external device. An application can send commands to a device
using SCSI command descriptor blocks (CDBs). Using the IOP software, an
application can communicate with a device to open, close, read, and write files and to
handle system messages using Guardian procedure calls such as FILE_OPEN_,
FILE_CLOSE_, and WRITEREAD[X].
For more information regarding syntax and commands that apply to the Open SCSI
interface, see Section 3, Interfacing With the Open SCSI I/O Process (IOP).
The Open SCSI IOP presents a standard file-system interface to the application
program, and it runs as a fault-tolerant process pair.
The Open SCSI IOP supports the attachment of one separately addressable and
controllable logical unit to the external device.
The Open SCSI implementation is not device specific. User applications can control
any type of SCSI-FCP device attached to a SCSI controller. To configure Open SCSI
devices, use the Subsystem Control Facility (SCF). For more information regarding
SCF commands, see the SCF Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem.
