Tips and tricks you need to know

Prior to XenServer 6.5, in order to use more than two cores per socket (allowing for 4 cores or more) on a virtual
machine, you must configure server from the command line to enable multiple cores per socket. Use the following
command for XenServer console to enable up to 4 cores per socket and set the virtual machine to use 4 cores at next
boot.
xe vm-param-set uuid=
VCPUs-at-startup=4

When connecting to a Citrix session in seamless mode using an end-client display configuration that is not supported
or that the client cannot configure, the session will look like it’s doing something for a few seconds and then
disappear with nothing happening.

WS460c Gen8 Systems may lose network configuration or console screens may be blank after installing Citrix
XenServer 6.1 Hotfix XS61E030 or installing or upgrading to Citrix XenServer 6.2 if not at system

XenServer 6.2 (before SP1) virtual machines (VMs) with NVIDIA GPUs passed-through that do not have any NVIDIA
GPU drivers installed can cause the XenServer RDP console to get locked at 640x480 resolution and 16-bit color
mode. Hotfix XS62E010 fixes this issue. Please see the following document for more information:

Configuration steps for XenDesktop 7.x and XenServer 6.x
1. Update the WS460c graphics server blade with the latest HP SPP firmware by booting to the SPP DVD.
You can obtain the latest SPP from the following page: http://www.hp.com/go/spp
2. Install a supported GRID vGPU card (for example, a GRID K1 or K2).
3. Set up the system BIOS for installation
a. WS460c Gen9
i. Set video mode
1. Connect to the blade using either the iLO remote console or a local SUV connector.
2. When prompted during boot, press the F9 key.
3. Select System Configuration and press ENTER
4. Select BIOS/Platform Configuration and press ENTER
5. Go to and select System Default Options Restore Default Options and press ENTER.
6. System will reset
7. Connect to the blade using either the iLO remote console or a local SUV connector.
8. When prompted during boot, press the F9 key.
9. Select System Configuration and press ENTER
10. Select BIOS/Platform Configuration and press ENTER
11. Select Advanced Options and press ENTER
12. Select Video options and press ENTER
13. choose Both Add-in and Embedded Video Enabled
ii. Set the blade to static high performance mode
1. From BIOS configuration
2. Select Power Management
3. For Power Profile, select Maximum Performance
b. WS460c Gen8
i. Boot to the HP RBSU (BIOS configuration utility) by pressing F9 during boot.
ii. Go to and select System Default Options Restore Default Options and press ENTER.
iii. System will reset
iv. Boot to the HP RBSU (BIOS configuration utility) by pressing F9 during boot.
