The band saw is equipped with a 230 – 240V ~ single phase 200W motor. It must be connected to an earthed socket and it is recommended that a residual current device (RCD) safety switch of 30 mA capacity be used in the circuit. If the cordset is damaged, have it replaced by an authorised service centre. There is a risk of electric shock if the machine is operated with a damaged power cable. Children or infirm people should not operate this band saw. Centring the table 1. Loosen the screws holding the table trunnion. 2. Move the table until the saw blade is positioned in the centre of the table insert. 3. Tighten the table trunnion screws ensuring that the table does not move. Setting the table square with the saw blade 1. Engage the table lock handle by pushing it towards the frame. 2. Loosen the locking nut on the 90° table tilt adjustable screw stop. 3. Using the small Allen key adjust the screw stop so that the marker on the frame indicates 0° on the trunnion scale when the screw stop rests against the frame. 4. Tighten the lock nut on the screw stop and tighten the table lock handle. 8 Dust collection Connect dust extraction equipment to the 40 mm diam. dust extraction port. CAUTION. Wood dust and chips in a confined area can give rise to fire or an explosion. Guard against possible ignition sources. Changing the saw band The saw is supplied with a general-purpose woodcutting blade. WARNING. Ensure that the mains plug is removed from the power socket and remove the locking insert from the ON/OFF switch before changing a blade. 1. To change the blade, first remove the rip fence and the cheese-headed screw held in the table with the wing nut. 2. Loosen the locking nut under the saw band tracking knob. 3. Loosen the two housing locking knobs and open the housing door. 4. Slacken the blade tension by rotating anti-clockwise the blade tensioning knob on the top of the upper wheel housing. 5. Press down on the blade tensioning knob to lower the upper wheel and carefully remove the saw band. 6. Press down on the blade tensioning knob as you fit the new saw band. Tension the blade lightly by rotating clockwise the blade-tensioning knob on the top of the housing. 7. Turn the upper wheel by hand to check that the blade is running in the centre of the rubber-lined wheels. 8. To adjust the tracking of the saw band, turn the knob on the rear of the upper wheel housing whilst rotating the upper wheel by hand. Tighten the lock nut after adjusting the knob. 9. Close and secure the wheel housing door. 10. Replace the rip fence scale. 11. Replace the cheese-headed screw, washer and wing nut. NOTE. The saw band is tensioned correctly when it runs quietly and without vibrating. CAUTION. Always ensure that the saw is switched off and unplugged from the power supply before making any adjustments. 9 WARNING. Over tightening the band saw will cause premature failure. Under tightening can cause the band to disengage whilst it is in use. Adjusting the blade support heads 1. Use the Allen key to loosen the screw either side of the upper blade guide assembly. 2. Slide the assembly left or right so that the blade is in the centre of the two bearings. 3. Slide the assembly back or forward so that the rear bearing is just clear of the back of the blade. 4. Retighten the two adjustment screws. 5. The bearings should run freely and turn when the saw is in use. 6. Use the Allen key to loosen the adjustment screw on the side of the lower support head. This screw is accessed through a hole in the frame. 7. Set the rear bearing just clear of the back of the blade. 8. The bearings should run freely and turn when the saw is in use. NOTE. Do not set the bearing too close, as the resulting friction will generate heat, which can have an adverse affect on the bearings and the blade. The bearing should run freely and turn when the machine is in use. Setting the cutting height 1. Always set the upper blade guide assembly as close as practical to the work. 2. To adjust the height, loosen the lock knob on the lamp side of the upper wheel housing, set the guide as required and then re-tighten the lock knob. Saw table tilt 1. To tilt the table, loosen the table lock handle on the underside of the table, tilt the table to the required angle and retighten the handle. NOTE. It is best to verify the angle of tilt by making a practice cut in a piece of scrap wood, measuring and resetting the angle if necessary. Operation Switching on and off 1. Connect the plug to the power supply. 2. Push the ON button. 3. To switch off, push the OFF button. NOTE. 1. Extension leads must have a minimum lead cross section of 3 x 0.75 ...
