1 Press PTY while listening to the radio. 2 Press +/– to select the program type you want. 3 Press ENTER. “SEARCH” and the selected program type are shown alternately in the display. When the tuner receives a program, the preset station number flashes. 4 Press +/– to continue searching for the station number you want. 5 Press ENTER while the preset station number you want is flashing. To stop the search while it is in progress Press PTY. 14 Tape Loading a tape 1 Press A EJECT Z or Z B EJECT. 2 Insert a tape in deck A or B with the side you want to play facing forward. Insert with the side you want to play/record facing forward. Playing a tape You can play any type of tape. TYPE I (normal), TYPE II (CrO2), or TYPE IV (metal). The deck automatically detects the tape type. 1 Load a recorded tape. 2 Press DIRECTION repeatedly to select g to play one side. Select j to play both sides. Select RELAY (Relay Play)* to play both decks in succession. 3 Press H. Press h to play the reverse side. The tape starts playing. * Relay Play always follow this cyclic sequence: Deck A (front side) t Deck A (reverse side) t Deck B (front side) t Deck B (reverse side) To Do this Stop play Press x. Pause Press X. (deck B only) Press again to resume play. Fast-forward Press M or m in stop mode. Rewind Press m or M in stop mode. Remove the Press A EJECT Z (or Z B cassette EJECT). Tips • The deck stops automatically after repeating the sequence five times. • You can fast-forward or rewind the tape, regardless of the selected source. • When you want to reduce the hiss noise in low-level high-frequency signals, press DOLBY NR so that “DOLBY NR B” appears. Searching for the beginning of a track (AMS) During playback, press . or > repeatedly for the number of songs you want to skip forward (or backward). The search direction, + (forward) or – (back), and number of songs being skipped (1~9) appear. Example: searching forward 2 songs Note The AMS function may not operate correctly under the following circumstances: – When the unrecorded space between songs is less than 4 seconds long. – When the unit is placed near a television. Tape Recording to a tape –– CD Synchro Recording/High Speed Dubbing/Recording Manually/ Program Edit You can record from a CD, tape or radio. You can use TYPE I (normal) or TYPE II (CrO2) tapes. The recording level is adjusted automatically. Steps Recording from a CD (CD Synchro Recording) Recording from a tape (High-Speed Dubbing) Recording Manually 1 Insert a recordable tape into deck B. 2 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “ CD” appears. Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “ TAPE” appears. Press FUNCTION or TUNER/BAND repeatedly until the source or band you want to record appears. 3 Insert the CD you want to record. Insert the tape you want to record into deck A. Insert the CD/tape, or tune to the station you want to record. 4 Press CD SYNC. Press H SPEED DUB. Press z REC. DECK B stands by for recording. To reduce the hiss noise in low level high frequency signals, press DOLBY NR so that “DOLBY NR B” appears in the display (except when recording from a tape). 5 Press DIRECTION repeatedly to select g to record on one side. Select j (or RELAY) to record on both sides. 6 Press X. Recording starts. 7 Start playing the source to be recorded. To stop recording Press x. Tips • When you want to record on the reverse side, press h after pressing z REC so that the indicator on the h button (for the reverse side) lights up green. • When you record on both sides, be sure to start from the front side. If you start from the reverse side, recording stops at the end of the reverse side. • For recording from the tape: If you set the direction to j when the tapes you use have different lengths, the tapes in each deck reverses independently. If you select RELAY, the tapes in both decks reverse together. • To record with the surround effect, press SURROUND so that “SUR ” appears. The equalizer settings will not be recorded. • For recording from the radio: If noise is heard while recording from the radio, move the respective antenna to reduce the noise. Recording a CD by specifying track order —Program Edit When programming, make sure the playing times for each side do not exceed the length of one side of the tape. 1 Load CDs and a recordable tape into deck B, then press FUNCTION repeatedly until “CD” appears. 2 Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until “PROGRAM” appears. 3 Select a CD and track by pressing DISC SKIP and turning the jog dial, then press PLAY MODE once. Repeat this procedure to program the remaining tracks for A side. 4 Press X on the remote to insert a pause at the end of side A. “P” appears and the total playing time resets to “0.00” in the display. 5 Repeat step 3 to program the remaining tracks to be recorded on side B. 6 Press CD SYNC. Deck B stands by for recording. 7 Press DIRECTION repeatedly to select g to record on one side. Select j (or RELAY) to record on both sides. 8 Press X.
