This operation is called Surface Scan. When Surface Scan is performed, it will require somewhat more time to initialize the drive, but the reliability of the hard disk will be enhanced. We recommend that you also perform Surface Scan when you initialize a drive. If you wish to perform Surface Scan, perform the following steps between steps 7 and 8 of the above procedure. 1. Use ["▼■] [► ! to move the cursor to "Surface Scan." 2.Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select "On." A certain length of time is required in order to initialize a disk drive. This is not a malfunction.
