Resumen del manual

ConstruCtion And FeAtures The R-05 is nicely compact, being only marginally thicker than an iPhone, and crammed into the unit are a bunch of features that will serve you well – and without too much fuss or the need to read some hugely weighty manual. The R-05 features high-quality stereo recording (24-bit/96kHz) Price: .209.99 5UPbeats: •Recordingquality •Easeofuse •Compact, ruggeddesign •Splitfiles 6Downbeats: •None Contact: Roland UK Ltd Tel:01792702701 Heads up Roland R05DigiTalRECoRDER Words: ianCroft via two inbuilt stereo mics, or you can plug in a mic of your own choice through an input at the top of the unit. The unit records directly to an SD card offering over 30 hours of continuous playback or 16 hours of continuous recording, and the R-05 will record uncompressed stereo sound directly to the SD card for an impressive level of clarity. A convenient rehearsal mode allows you to hit the ‘power on’ switch and almost instantaneously begin a recording that ensures you don’t overload the input levels, as by setting the optimum recording level from the start, the unit will then keep everything recorded to below that level. The R-05 will also split recordings into high-quality WAV files or into an MP3 file for easy file sharing. On-board editing allows you to rapidly trim, divide and combine recordings, and you can also add reverb for a more polished final recording, with four different reverb types available for use. There is a loop function that will repeatedly run a section of audio for you, and you can also slow down the playback speed without any change to the recorded pitch, allowing you to listen and work out parts that may sound intimidating at normal speeds; it’s a great way to learn new parts without detracting from the original sound. Length of recording times will vary according to the sound quality that you desire, but the minimum time is 27 minutes for the full 24-bit/96kHz high-quality format. At the other end of the scale, you can record up to 16 hours, albeit at a much lower recording-quality level. Input levels are variable for either mic input or line input, and the R-05 comes with a mini B-type connector that will slot directly into your computer’s USB port. in use I tested the R-05 both at a gig and at a rehearsal and found it to be very easy to use, as everything is clearly mapped out and easy to understand, as is the short but detailed owner’s manual. During the rehearsal the R-05 was kept in the suggested ‘rehearsal mode’ and provided a sound quality that ensured everything was crisp and concisely recorded. The ability to then send the rest of the band members MP3 files the following day was a breeze. The R-05 does come with a tripod mount, but often at gigs you can’t set things quite where you’d like them to be, and this was the case when I took the unit to a gig. Being unable to position the recorder in the centre of the band’s set-up, I ran out of time (and patience) and simply placed the digital recorder on a low shelf next to the kit, positioning it far away from where I really wanted it to be, though it was convenient for me to reach and observe recording levels. Later that night, when I got back home, I figured I’d see what the outcome was and really did not have a lot of faith in the potential results. How wrong I was! Having positioned the recorder almost flat against a wall and very close to the kit, especially the crash/ride cymbal, I feared that the cymbals alone would be knocking the levels far into the red and possibly distorting the recordings in the process. Not so! The two sets that I had recorded came out really well – certainly well enough for me to clearly hear all the other instruments within the band, and all of them (guitar, bass, percussion, drums and keyboards) sounded nicely balanced against each other. I was amazed at how good the recording sounded, especially considering the hasty positioning of the R-05. The stereo mics had clearly worked overtime to capture the band’s sound, and had I (with forethought) spent a little more time on finding a more forward position, I would have had a cracking and highly usable recording. ConClusion The Roland R-05 is a brilliant piece of kit, one that allows even the most Luddite of technophobes like myself to capture quality recordings without any stress. The ability to split files – WAV/ MP3 – is a bonus, and the ease of transmitting from the recorder to your Mac or PC and then onto band members is laudable. This highly compact digital recorder will not only function well in a band setting, but due to its compact nature will allow you to be almost anywhere and grab a recording of any sounds that hit your ears in high definition. I’d also suggest that it is great value for money and soon to become a ‘must-have’ item for any musician. September 2010 DRUMMER84 ...
