CDs are often used to install software or store files that require a lot of space, such as photographs and large presentation files. You can use Explorer or My Computer to view the contents of any CD or DVD. 88 88 Learning the Basics Using the DVD-ROM or DVD-ROM/CD-RW multifunction drive Caring for CDs and DVDs . Store your discs in their original containers to protect them from scratches and keep them clean. . Never bend a disc or place heavy objects on top of it. . Hold a disc by its outside edge. Fingerprints on the surface of a compact disc can prevent the drive from reading the data properly. . Avoid exposing discs to direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold. . To clean a disc, wipe it from the center outwards (not in a circle) with a clean, dry cloth. If necessary, moisten the cloth with water or a neutral cleaner (not benzine or rubbing alcohol). Let the disc dry completely before inserting it in the drive.
