These components include, but are not limited to, a mouse, keyboard, printer, memory, and PC cards. Your computer contains a rechargeable main battery that needs to be charged before you can use it. To use external power or to charge the battery you must attach the AC adapter. See “Connecting to a power source” on page 51. 48 48 48d Setting up your computer To register your computer online or to sign up for an Internet account, you must either connect the built-in modem to a telephone line or establish a Local Area Network (LAN) connection. See “Connecting the modem to a telephone line” on page 157. Setting up your software NOTE The names of windows displayed, and the order in which windows appear, may vary according to your software setup choices. The first time you turn on your computer, the Setup Wizard guides you through steps to set up your software. 1 From the welcome screen click Next to enter the Setup Wizard. 2 Confirm acceptance of Microsoft’s End User License Agreement and click Next. 3 Select the appropriate option from the Help protect your computer screen and click Next. 4 Enter the computer name and description and click Next or Skip. 5 Select how your computer will connect to the Internet and click Next. The computer will pause for a moment while checking for an Internet connection. If an Internet connection could not be found, a window will display the message: “An Internet connection could not be chosen.” Click Next to continue. Getting Started Getting Started Registering your computer with Toshiba NOTE If you are connecting your computer to a network, consult your system administrator before you choose your computer name and network settings. 6 Follow the remaining screen prompts to complete the setup process. Once you click the final screen, your computer restarts automatically. Registering your computer with Toshiba Product registration is strongly recommended, and allows Toshiba to send the Customer periodic updates, announcements, and special offers applicable to the product. Product registration can be completed during the initial start up process of your computer. If you opt not to register at that time, you can either double-click the icon on your desktop or go to the Toshiba web site at Customer failure to complete Product Registration will not diminish Customer rights under this limited Warranty.
