4. Remove the memory module from the connector. Replacing the Memory Module(s) 1. Align the notch in the module edge connector with the tab in the connector slot. 2. Slide the module firmly into the slot at a 45-degree angle, and press the module down until it clicks into place. If you do not feel the click, remove the module and reinstall it. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions that shipped with your computer. NOTE: Memory modules purchased from Dell are covered under your computer warranty. NOTICE: If you need to install memory modules in both connectors, install a memory module in the lower connector before you install a module in the upper connector. NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). NOTICE: To prevent damage to the memory module connector, do not use tools to spread the memory module securing clips. 1 memory module connector 2 securing clip (2) 3 memory module NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer). NOTE: If the memory module is not installed properly, the computer may not boot. 3. Replace the base cover (see Replacing the Base Cover). 4. Slide the battery into the battery bay until it clicks into place or connect the AC adapter to your computer and an electrical outlet. 5. Turn on the computer. As the computer boots, it detects the additional memory and automatically updates the system configuration information. To confirm the amount of memory installed in the computer, click Start ® Help and Support® Dell System Information. Place the microphone in the slot in the computer base. 2. Connect the microphone cable to the connector on the system board. 3. Follow the instructions in Replacing the Palm Rest. 4. Reinstall the memory modules and Mini-Cards, if any. 5. Reinstall the ExpressCards in the ExpressCard slot, if any. Your computer supports two Mini-Card slots: l one Full Mini-Card slot – for WPAN l one Half Mini-Card slot – for WLAN The types of Mini-Cards supported are: l Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) — Half Mini-Card l Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) or Internal Card with Bluetooth® Wireless Technology — Full Mini-Card Removing the Mini-Card 1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin. 2. Turn the computer over and remove the base cover (see Removing the Base Cover). 3. Disconnect the antenna cables from the Mini-Card. 4. Remove the securing screw that connects the Mini-Card to the system board. CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures in this section, follow the safety instructions that shipped with your computer. NOTICE: To help prevent damage to the system board, you must remove the battery from the battery bay before you begin working inside the computer.
