• Unsecure: Enable the lock screen, but no pattern, PIN, or password is required. For more information, refer to “Unlocking the Device” on page 10. • Pattern: A screen unlock pattern is a touch gesture you create and use to unlock your device. Follow the prompts to create or change your screen unlock pattern. • PIN: Select a PIN to use for unlocking the screen. • Password: Create a password for unlocking the screen. Owner Information This option is available only if you set Configure lock screen to display the lock screen (any setting other than Off). Use this option to enable or disable whether to show owner information on the lock screen. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Owner information and then touch Show owner info on lock screen to enable or disable the option. 3. Touch text field and use the keyboard to enter the text to display on the lock screen. Settings 141 Encryption To require a numeric PIN or password to decrypt your tablet each time you power it on: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Encrypt device. For more information, read the displayed help screen. Tip: Make sure your battery is charged more than 80 percent. Encryption takes an hour or more. Find My Mobile To allow your device to be locked and tracked, and for your data to be deleted remotely: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch the check box next to Remote controls. 3. Select a country and touch OK. The Samsung account Terms and Conditions displays. 4. Touch the I accept all the terms above check box and touch Accept. The Samsung account screen displays. 5. Touch Sign-up to create a Samsung account. – or – Touch Sign in, if you already have a Samsung account, enter your Email address and your Samsung account password, and touch Sign in. A Remote controls checked message displays. 6. Touch OK. For more information about Samsung accounts, see “Signing In to your Samsung Account” on page 155. To disable remote controls: 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch the check box next to Remote controls. 3. Enter your Samsung account password in the pop-up Password field. 142 4. Touch OK. The check mark is removed from the Remote controls check box. Passwords Visible Passwords When enabled, password characters display briefly as you touch them while entering passwords. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Visible passwords to enable or disable brief displays of password characters. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box. Device Administration Add or remove device administrators. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Device administrators. Credential Storage Use Secure Credentials This feature is not available for your device. Install from USB Storage Install encrypted certificates from a storage device, such as a PC, with the USB cable. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Install from USB storage, then choose a certificate and follow the prompts to install. Set Password Set or change a password to protect credentials. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Set password, then follow the prompts. Settings 143 Clear Storage Clear stored credentials and reset the password. Note: This setting only appears if you have installed encrypted certificates. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Location and security. 2. Touch Clear storage to clear stored credentials and reset the password. Applications You can download and install applications from Android Market or create applications using the Android SDK and install them on your device. Use Applications settings to manage applications. Warning!: Because this device can be configured with system software not provided by or supported by Google or any other company, endusers operate these devices at their own risk. Manage Applications Manage and remove applications from your device. 1. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Applications . Manage applications. 2. Touch an application to view and update information about the application, including memory usage, default settings, and permissions. For more information, refer to “Uninstalling an App” on page 102. Running Services View and control services running on your device. Warning!: Not all services can be stopped. Stopping services may have undesirable consequences on the application or Android System. From a Home screen, touch Apps . Settings . Applications . Running services. To stop a service: 1. Touch the service. 2. Touch Stop. The Stop system service? pop-up displays. 3.
