If you have the automatic brightness setting enabled, the brightness of the screen is adjusted automatically according to the surrounding brightness. Tap [ Apps & Widgets] - [ Settings] - [Display] - [Brightness] - [Automatic brightness] to remove the check mark and disable the automatic brightness setting.
