our Grill Gauge propane monitor lets you know when to grill— and when to refill! no more empty propane tanks during family cookouts or when your propane supplier is closed. you’re sure to be prepared for all grilling occasions with the brookstone® Grill Gauge. OC K OC K danger Failure to follow these instructions may result in an explosion or fire that may cause property damage, serious injury or death. your Grill Gauge is equipped with a backcheck module that prevents propane from flowing until connected to your appliance. Do not insert foreign objects into the adapter to push open the backcheck module. you could be sprayed with propane and/or cause personal injury, a fire or explosion. OC K Caution Perform a “Leak test” each time the cylinder is connected—before lighting the grill. Movement of the grill, disconnection of existing propane cylinder and installation of a new Grill Gauge should only be done when the grill is cool. SAFETY PRECAUTION: Propane cylinder storage areas must be outdoors. no smoking and no flames should be in the area when connecting, disconnecting or leak testing. 2 for your safety READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO INSTALLATION AND USE OF YOUR NEW GRILL GAUGE. If you smell propane: 1. shut-off burner control. 2. extinguish any open flames. 3. open grill lid. 4. shut-off propane supply at cylinder. 5. If odor continues, immediately contact your gas supplier or fire department. 6. Connection or disconnection of the propane cylinder must take place outdoors in a well ventillated area only. 7. Do not make modifications to the Grill Gauge. If it does not fit, please call brookstone® Customer service at 800-846-3000. 8. examine the Grill Gauge for damage. If damaged, please call brookstone® Customer service at 800-846-3000 to exchange for a new Grill Gauge. loCation of parts 1 Figure 1 23 loCation of parts 1. Large outside threads 2. Grill Gauge Window with 3 temperature Indicators 3. Plastic Coupling nut Grill Gauge temperature Indicators (see Figure 1) Propane gas can be used at very low temperatures. the Grill Gauge makes allowances for the outside air temperature by having 3 sectors labeled Hot Day, Cool Day, and Cold Day. read the Grill Gauge according to the air temperature where you are using the appliance. For example: a cool day at 45 to 65 degrees F, you would read the gauge from the middle band. Temperature Range Guide Hot Day 65. Fahrenheit and above Cool Day between 45. and 65. degrees Cold Day 45. Fahrenheit and below note: In extremely cold weather (10 degrees F) the propane in the cylinder may not vaporize as quickly as required, thus the gauge will read in or about the yellow zone. installation instruCtions 1. turn gas grill burner control knob oFF, turn propane supply oFF at cylinder. 2. Move gas grill to an open, well-ventilated outdoor area prior to disconnecting/connecting to outlet of propane cylinder service valve. 3. Make sure all connections are clean. Adjust gauge to desired position. Hand tighten the plastic coupling nut clockwise to the large outside threads on the propane cylinder service valve until the connection seals properly. (see Figure 2) 4. With gauge in desired position for easy reading, attach the regulator to the Grill Gauge by hand tightening the regulator plastic coupling nut clockwise to the large outside threads on the Grill Gauge. 5. to disconnect Grill Gauge from cylinder service valve outlet, turn oFF appliance(s) burner control knob(s); turn oFF propane supply at cylinder. turn plastic coupling nut counter clockwise until it disengages from large outside threads on cylinder service valve outlet. installation instruCtions (Cont.) NOTE: In the connection process, the connections will seal on the internal backcheck modules in the cylinder valve and Grill Gauge resulting in a slight resistance. the connection requires about a one-half to three-quarters additional turn to complete the connection. tIGHten by HAnD onLy—tAkInG CAre not to CrosstHreAD tHe ConneCtIon. Do not Use tooLs. Figure 2 operating instruCtions Before lighting and using your appliance, check all connections for leaks using a mild soapy water solution. DO NOT USE MATCHES! Testing for leaks should start at the gas cylinder working back to your appliance. Leak TesT Procedure 1. turn oFF the propane supply at the cylinder. turn oFF all appliance burner controls. 2. With the appliance controls in the oFF position, turn propane cylinder valve on. this pressurizes all lines to appliance(s). Wait 3 seconds then CLose cylinder valve. the grill gauge now monitors pressure between the cylinder and appliance. Any leaks in the lines between the cylinder and appliance will be indicated by the window color changing from green to red within 45 seconds. on some propane systems, the color will change over a longer period of time. operating instruCtions (Cont.) 3.
