OWNER’S MANUAL General Information Mosquitoes and biting flies use a combination of sensorysignals to locate a warm blooded host includingheat, light, scent, color, shape, motion and other by-products of human activity. Your unit duplicates these sensory signals through the useof solid state electronic technology and through esotericproduct design. Mosquitoes and other flying insect pests attracted to thedevice are drawn into the unit by a special airflow wherethey dehydrate and die. A removable “see through” collection tray provides forfast, clean and easy disposal of dead insects. Important Safety Instructions 1. Never place fingers or hands, or insert any objects into the unit while it is connected to an electrical source. 2. Always disconnect the power cord from its electrical source before servicing, handling or cleaning the unit. 3. Never operate unit with the ultraviolet blacklight- blue bulb removed from its socket. 4. Do not abuse the power pack. Never carry the power pack by its cord or yank it to disconnect it from a receptacle. 5. Keep power cord away from heat, oil and sharp edges. 6. Never connect the unit to a battery or other D.C. voltage. Such an attempt will damage your unit. 7. Empty collection tray frequently to ensure proper airflow through the tray. 8. Do not clean unit with water spray from a hose or the like. Unpacking Your Galaxie PowerVac has been carefully packed at thefactory to prevent damage during shipment. Carefully openthe carton and remove its contents. Check parts against thecarton content list as shown below. Save carton and fillers and use them for storing your unitduring off-season months. To properly locate your unit inyour yard, read the accompanying booklet “the Fine Art of Trapping Mosquitoes” and follow its guidelines regarding trap placement, Your Mosquito PowerVac emits an octenol-enhancedplume of air which mosquitoes and biting flies follow intheir search for a blood meal. Biting insects fly up-windtoward the source of the plume in their attempt to locate ahost. Since the direction of the plume is dependent uponthe direction of the wind, your unit should be positioned soit faces downwind. Female mosquitoes also feed on moisture laden nectarand fruit juices when not in search of a blood meal. Theyare usually found in shade; around flowers, trees, bushesand other vegetation; and adjacent to standing water. For best results locate your unit 20 to 40 feet away fromareas of human activity in a location near (but not in) bushes, wooded areas, or adjacent to standing water (other thanswimming pools). Select a location which will result in the scented plume blowing toward the area where mosquitoesare likely to hide and emerge. A proper location will ensurethat mosquitoes encounter the plume and follow it up-windto the PowerVac before they detect the presence ofhumans. Insert one end of Post (A) intothe post opening at the rear ofthe Base (B). 2 . Insert other end of Post (A) into the post opening at thebottom of the unit. Align unit in relation to the Base as shown. See Illustration 2. 3 . Locate the PowerVac in the desired location in your yard. Insert the two Anchor Pins through the holes in the Base (B) and drive the pins into theground to anchor the unit inplace. See Illustration 2. 4 . Install collection tray by fir s tinserting the rear of the trayinto the housing. Then pushupper part of the latch in andraise front of collection tray intoplace.
