Your clock radio requires a 9-volt battery (not supplied) for its back-up power system. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend a RadioShack alkaline battery. Caution: Use only a fresh battery of the required size and recommended type. Follow these steps to install the back-up battery once you have connected the clock to AC power. 1. Press the battery compartment cover’s tab in the direction of the arrow, then lift off the cover to remove it. 2. Snap the battery into the connector in the battery compartment and place the battery in the compartment. The BATTERY SENTINEL indicator turns off. 3. Replace the cover. Caution: Always remove an old or weak battery. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. Warning: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not bury or burn them. 3 4 OPERATION SETTING THE TIME To set the hour, hold down TIME and repeatedly press (or hold) HOUR until the desired hour appears. PM lights to indicate a PM hour. To set minutes, hold down TIME and repeatedly press (or hold) MINUTE until the desired minutes appear. ADJUSTING THE DISPLAY BRIGHTNESS Set DIMMER HI/LO to HI or LO to adjust the display’s brightness as desired. PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Rotate VOLUME to the left to turn down the volume. 2. To turn on the radio, slide ALARM/ AUTO/OFF/ON to ON. 3. Slide BAND to FM or AM then rotate VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 4. Rotate TUNING. A pointer indicates the station’s frequency on the dial below the clock. Note: The AM antenna is built-in. Rotate the clock radio for the best AM reception. The AC power cord also serves as the FM antenna. For the best FM reception, fully extend the AC power cord. 5. To turn off the radio, slide ALARM/ AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. USING THE SLEEP TIMER You can set the radio to play for up to 2 hours and then automatically turn off. Follow these steps to set the play time. 1. Slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to the desired alarm sound (AUTO for the radio, or ALARM for the buzzer). 2. To play the radio for 1 hour, press SLEEP. The radio turns on, plays 1 hour then automatically turns off. To set the play time between 1 and 2 hours, press SLEEP. The radio turns on and 0:59 appears. Then hold down SLEEP and press HOUR. To turn off the radio before it automatically turns off, press SNOOZE. Note: If you press SLEEP again, the sleep time is reset to 0:59. SETTING THE ALARM TIME 1. Slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. 2. Hold down ALARM and repeatedly press (or hold down) HOUR until you reach the desired alarm hour. PM lights to indicate a PM hour. 3. Hold down ALARM and repeatedly press (or hold down) MINUTE until you reach the desired alarm minute. 4. Rotate VOLUME to set the desired alarm sound level. To confirm the alarm time, press ALARM. USING THE ALARM To set the alarm, slide ALARM/AUTO/ OFF/ON to ALARM. At the preset time, the alarm sounds for up to 1 hour, 59 minutes then automatically turns off. To turn off the alarm at any time, slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. Slide it back to ALARM or AUTO (for radio) to reset the alarm. USING THE RADIO ALARM 1. Slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to AUTO. At the preset alarm time, the radio turns on for up to 1 hour, 59 minutes. 2. To turn off the radio at any time, slide ALARM/AUTO/OFF/ON to OFF. 3. To reset the alarm, slide ALARM/ AUTO/OFF/ON to ON or AUTO (for the radio). USING SNOOZE To temporarily turn off the alarm, press SNOOZE. The alarm or radio sounds or turns on again in about 9 minutes. Each time you press SNOOZE, the alarm or radio turns off for another 9 minutes. The alarm or radio continues to sound every 9 minutes until you slide ALARM/AUTO/ OFF/ON to OFF. 5 12-1615.fm Page 6 Friday, August 13, 1999 9:29 AM CARE To enjoy your AM/FM Clock Radio for a long time: • Keep the clock radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. • Use and store the clock radio only in normal temperature environments. • Handle the clock radio gently and carefully. Don’t drop it. • Keep the clock radio away from dust and dirt. • Wipe the clock radio with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Modifying or tampering with the clock radio’s internal components can cause a malfunction and invalidate its warranty. If your clock radio is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. 6 THE FCC WANTS YOU TO KNOW Your clock radio might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To determine whether your clock radio is causing the interference, turn off your clock radio. If the interference goes away, your clock radio is causing the interference. Try to eliminate the interference by: • moving your clock radio away from the TV or radio • connecting your clock radio to an outlet that is on a different electric...
