To cancel the sleep timer: Press TIMER until it is set to 0. The timer can also be set using the on-screen menu: 1. Press MENU, and then press x or • until the SETUP menu appears. 2. Press y or z to highlight TIMER. 3. After the number position starts to blink, press the Channel Number buttons (0-9) to enter the length of time until the TV turns off automatically. 4. While the sound is off, the screen will display the word “1/2 MUTE” or “MUTE” in the RECALL lower right corner. Every time you press the button, the mute mode will change in the following order. > Normal > 1/2 MUTE > MUTE MUTE When you select “MUTE” mode, the closed caption feature is automatically activated. To deactivate this feature, press MUTE again. This feature works only when the closed caption mode is set to OFF. See “Using the closed caption feature” on page 42 for more information. Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts The multi-channel TV sound (MTS) feature allows you to listen to MENU high-fidelity stereo sound while watching TV. MTS can also transmit yzx • a second audio program (SAP) containing a second language, music, or other audio information (when provided by individual stations). When the TV receives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word STEREO or SAP appears on-screen every time the TV is turned on, the channel is changed, or the RECALL button is pressed. The MTS feature is not available when the TV is in VIDEO mode. To listen to stereo sound: 1. Press MENU, and then press x or • until the AUDIO menu appears. 2. Press y or z to highlight MTS. 3. The word “STEREO” or “SAP” displays in yellow in the menu when the TV receives the signal. If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO to reduce the noise. To listen to SAP (if available): 1. Press MENU, and then press x or • until the AUDIO menu appears. 2. Press y or z to highlight MTS. 3. Press x or • to highlight SAP. You will hear the station’s second audio program (if available) from the speakers, while viewing the original program’s picture (see note at right). Note : A second audio program (SAP) can be heard only on those TV stations that offer it. For example, a station might broadcast music as a second audio program. If you have SAP on, you will see the current program on the screen but hear music instead of the program’s normal audio. However, if you have SAP on, and the station you are watching is not currently broadcasting a second audio program, you will see the picture but not hear any sound. If this happens, put the TV in STEREO mode so you can hear the station’s normal audio. 44 Using the SRS 3D surround sound feature The SRS 3D surround sound feature expands the audio listening field wider and deeper to create exceptional sound quality from the TV’s speakers. The feature uses stereo signals from a TV broadcast or video input. To turn on the SRS 3D surround: 1. Select STEREO mode (see “Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts” on page 44). 2. Press MENU, and then press x or • until the THEATER menu appears. 3. Press y or z to highlight SRS 3D. 4. Press x or • to highlight ON. In general, you can leave your TV in ON mode because it will automatically produce the type of sound being broadcast (surround stereo or monaural).
