If the main switch has been pushed but no burner ignited, the appliance will switch itself off automatically after 3 minutes. If the burner goes out (e.g. a draught) when in use, the appliance will switch the hotplate on again automatically. If this ignition is unsuccessful (e.g. as a result of boiled-over liquid on the burner), the flow of gas to this burner is interrupted and the hotplate indicator flashes. Turn the control knob to 0 and check whether the cause can be rectified using the table on page 16. Safety system Every hotplate features a safety pilot (thermocouple). This means that if the flame ever goes out (e.g. is extinguished by boiled-over liquid), the flow of gas is interrupted. Setting Control knob off Maximum capacity or High aperture and flame electricity on Low Minimum flame capacity or aperture For dual double-flame burners, the inner and outer flames can be controlled separately. The available power levels are as follows: Inner and outer flame on full power. Outer flame on minimum, inner flame on full power. Inner flame on full power. Inner flame on minimum power. “Power on/off” and Every cooking zone is fitted with a “power on/off” and residual heat indicator which comes on when the flame residual heat indicator on the corresponding burner is ignited. The residual heat indicator remains on after the cooking zone has been switched off provided the hotplate is still hot enough to be dangerous when touched. The residual heat indicator goes out when the hotplate has cooled sufficiently. Overheating The hob is equipped with overheating protection to protect the electronics. This switches all the burners off protection in the event of overheating and the “power on/off” indicators in all the burners and the main switch flash. Turn all control knobs to the 0 position. Wait until the appliance has cooled down sufficiently and the power on/off indicator for the main switch has gone out. Now you can switch on the appliance as usual. The burner power on/off indicators stop flashing rapidly or switch over to the residual heat indicator Childproof locks To activate the childproof lock, press on the main switch for a few seconds until the child lock indicator comes on. It is normal to hear a slight whistling noise while the burner is operating. When it is first used, it is normal for the burner to give off odours; this does not pose any risk and does not indicate a malfunction; they will disappear in time. A few seconds after the burner is switched off, a sound (thud) will be produced. This is not a fault - this means that the safety device is no longer operating. Keep the burner as clean as possible.
