To turn off the display, touch . b Notes • The calculation for the space of the internal memory (HDR-UX19E/UX20E) or the “Memory Stick PRO Duo” is 1MB = 1,048,576 bytes. The fractions less than MB are discarded when the space is displayed. The displayed size of the whole space will be slightly smaller than the size shown below despite displaying both free and used space. • Since there is a management file area, the used space is not displayed as 0 MB even if you perform [MEDIA FORMAT] (p. 76). z Tips • Any media information other than the information set with [MOVIE MEDIA SET] is not displayed. To check other media information, set the other media on [MOVIE MEDIA SET] (p. 26). Formatting the media Format means to delete all recorded images from a media to gain the original memory capacity of the media. Before performing [MEDIA FORMAT], you should save important images on other device or media (p. 59, 66, 103). Formatting the internal memory (HDR-UX19E/UX20E) or the “Memory Stick PRO Duo” 1 Connect the AC Adaptor to the DC IN jack on your camcorder and the wall outlet (wall socket). 2 Turn on your camcorder. 3 Insert the “Memory Stick PRO Duo” into your camcorder if you perform formatting the“Memory Stick PRO Duo.” 4 Touch (HOME) t (MANAGE MEDIA) t [MEDIA FORMAT] t [INT. MEMORY] (HDR-UX19E/UX20E) or [MEMORY STICK]. 5 Touch [YES] t [YES]. 6 When [Completed.] appears, touch . b Notes • Do not apply shock or vibration to your camcorder, and do not disconnect the AC Adaptor during formatting. • Even the images protected with another device against accidental deletion are also deleted. • Do not attempt the following operations when [Executing...] is on the screen: – Operate the POWER switch or buttons – Eject the “Memory Stick PRO Duo” while formatting the “Memory Stick PRO Duo” Formatting the disc A DVD-R/DVD+R DL cannot be formatted. Replace it with a new disc. If you format a finalized disc Formatting deletes all movies on a finalized disc. One of the following icons, or , appears on the screen, but there is no need to finalize the disc again before playing the disc on an AVCHD format compatible player.* When formatting a disc of the SD (standard definition) image quality • In the case of a DVD-RW (VIDEO mode), the disc is unfinalized and it has to be finalized again to enable the disc to be played on another device. • In the case of a DVD-RW (VR mode)/ DVD+RW, formatting deletes all images on a finalized disc. One of the following icons, or , appears on the screen, but there is no need to finalize the disc again before playing the disc on other devices.* * To create a disc menu (DVD menu) on a DVD+RW or DVD-RW with HD (high definition) image quality, finalize the disc again (p. 71). 1 Connect the AC Adaptor to the DC IN jack on your camcorder and the wall outlet (wall socket). 2 Turn on your camcorder. 3 Insert the disc to be formatted into your camcorder. 4 Touch (HOME) t (MANAGE MEDIA) t [MEDIA FORMAT] t [DISC]. b Notes • The screen message will be different if the disc was formatted with SD (standard definition) image quality at the previous formatting. Follow the procedures on the screen. 5 Touch [YES]. To record with SD (standard definition) image quality, touch [SD]. Utilizing the media Continued , 77 Formatting the media (Continued) b Notes • You cannot change the image quality of a disc during recording. • For details on AVCHD format/DVD format, see page 14, 126. 6 Touch the option that is right for you on the screen. The disc will be formatted in the recording image quality and format you selected. When formatting is completed, you can start recording on the disc. To format a disc with SD (standard definition) image quality • Select the recording format, VIDEO mode or VR mode, for DVD-RW (p. 14). If you format DVD-RW during Easy Handycam operation (p. 32), the recording format is fixed to VIDEO. • Select the aspect ratio, [16:9 WIDE] or [4:3], for DVD+RW. b Notes • Do not apply shock or vibration to your camcorder, and do not disconnect the AC Adaptor during formatting. • When you use a double-sided disc, formatting is required on each side. You can format each side in the different image quality (HD (high definition) or SD (standard definition)). • In the case of DVD+RW with SD (standard definition) image quality, you cannot change the movie aspect ratio midway. Format the disc again to change the aspect ratio. • Discs recorded with HD (high definition) image quality can be formatted on AVCHD format compatible devices only (p. 126). • You cannot format a disc that has been protected on other devices. Cancel the protection with the original device, and then format it. Recording additional movies after finalizing You can record additional movies on the finalized DVD-RW/DVD+RW after the following steps. Additional movies cannot be recorded on a DVD-R/DVD+R DL after finalizing. Replace it with a new disc. 1 ...
