Operating modes: 1 Power the camcorder using the compact power adapter. Do not disconnect the power source or turn off the camcorder until the initialization is completed. 2 Initialize the memory. All recordings will be erased and the memory can be used without any problem. 38 • Preparations IMPORTANT • Initializing the memory will permanently erase all recordings. Lost original recordings cannot be recovered. Make sure you save important recordings in advance using an external device (0120). • Initializing a memory card will permanently erase any music files and images you may have transferred to the card. ( The music files and image mix frames that come pre-installed in the built-in memory will be restored after it is initialized.) To transfer music files from the supplied Camcorder Supplemental Disc to the memory card: -Windows users: Remove the memory card from the camcorder, connect it to a computer and use the supplied PIXELA’s software. For details, refer to the Software Guide (PDF file) of the supplied PIXELA’s software. -Mac OS users: Remove the memory card from the camcorder and connect it to a computer. Use Finder to transfer music files from the [MUSIC] folder on the supplied Camcorder Supplemental Disc to the memory card. Refer to About the music files(0183) for the folder structure of the memory card. • At the time of purchase, Eye-Fi cards contain the necessary network configuration software. Be sure to install the software and complete the required configuration setup before you initialize the Eye-Fi card prior to using it with this camcorder. Preparations .. 39 AUTO Mode This chapter covers how to easily record video and photos in mode, and how to use basic shooting functions like zoom and Quick Start. To enjoy full access to menus and more advanced functions, refer to Recording in y (Manual) Mode (075). Basic Recording Shooting Video and Taking Photos in AUTO Mode By default, movies and photos are recorded in the built-in memory ( only) or on memory card X ( ). You can select the memory that will be used to record movies and photos (036). Please read the IMPORTANT section (043) before using an Eye-Fi card. To record video Press g to begin recording. • Press g again to pause the recording. • The ACCESS indicator will flash from time to time whilis being recorded. To take photos Touch [PHOTO]. • A green icon (h) will appear momentarily on the screen and the ACCESS indicator will flash as the photo is recorded. • You can record photos simultaneously while recording a movie. • You can also press j on the wireless controller. When you have finished recording 1 Make sure that the ACCESS indicator is off. 2 Turn off the camcorder. 3 Close the LCD panel. AUTO Mode .. 41 Rating Scenes You can turn on the scene rating option in recording mode with the 88 [Rate Scenes (Recording)] setting. Immediately after recording a scene, you will have the option to rate it by touching one of the rating buttons; you can also touch [ ] or [a] to leave the scene unrated. Later you can play back scenes and perform other scene operations by rating. About AUTO mode • Only the following functions are available in mode. -Zoom (045). -Quick Start (046). -Video snapshot (061). -Advanced image stabilization modes (081) to shoot video while walking or to stabilize the shot while zooming in on faraway subjects (telephoto). -Face detection (083) to get beautiful shots of people every time, tracking the subject even if the person moves. -Touch & Track (085) to track other moving subjects, keeping them in focus and using the best settings to record them. -Story Creator (058) to transform your movies into compelling video stories by following simple scripts for various scenarios. -Decoration (062) to add a fun personal touch using stamps, drawings, image mix and more. About the Smart AUTO function In mode, the camcorder will automatically detect certain characteristics of the subject, background, lighting conditions, etc. It will then adjust various settings (focus, exposure, color, image stabilization, image quality, among others), selecting the best settings for the scene you want to shoot.
