The self-timer sounds and the blinking gets faster two seconds before the shutter activates. 45 Shooting – The Basics • When is selected, the self-timer lamp blinks fast from the beginning. The shutter activates in two seconds. • Shooting procedures are the same as for the mode (p. 33). You can change the self-timer sound by changing the setting in [Self-timer Sound] in the [ (My Camera)] menu (p. 72). 46 Digital Zoom Mode Dial Images can be zoomed with the combined optical and digital zoom functions as follows. • 3.8x, 4.8x, 6.0x, 7.4x, and 10x 1Press the DISP. button to turn the LCD monitor on. 2In the [ (Rec.)] menu, select (Digital Zoom). • See Selecting Menus and Settings (p. 65). 3Select [On] using or and press the MENU button. 4Press the zoom lever toward . • The lens will zoom to the maximum optical telephoto setting and stop. Shooting Panoramic Images (Stitch Assist) Mode Dial Use this mode when taking shots that you want to combine into a panorama. To create the panorama itself, you must stitch the images together using your computer. To create the panorama with your computer, use the PhotoStitch software that came with your camera. 48 Shooting – The Basics Framing a Subject The PhotoStitch program detects the overlapping portions of adjoining images and merges them. When shooting, try to include a distinctive item (landmark) in the overlapping portions. ..Compose each frame so that it overlaps 30 to 50 % of the adjoining image. Try to keep the vertical misalignment to within 10 % of the image height. ..Do not include moving items in the overlap. ..Do not try to stitch images that include both distant and close items. Objects may appear warped or doubled up. • Make the brightness in each image consistent. The final image will appear unnatural if the difference in brightness is too great. • For good results, pan (swivel) the camera to take successive shots. • To shoot close-ups, slide the camera over the subject, keeping it parallel as you move.
