Do not rub the cover, as it is sensitive to pressure. Discs . Proper care of the disc is essential to its continuous reliability. Do not use solvents (such as benzine, thinner, alcohol, commercially available cleaners, or anti-static spray) which may cause damage to the disc. . For normal cleaning, hold the disc by its edges and use a soft cloth to wipe the surface from the center out. . If the disc is badly soiled, moisten a soft cloth with water, wring it out well, and use it to wipe the surface of the disc from the center out. Wipe off any remaining moisture with a dry soft cloth. Precautions > Handling Your Computer n112 N Handling Your Computer . If you drop a solid object or any liquid onto your computer, shut down the computer and then unplug it. You may want to have the computer checked by qualified personnel before operating it again. . Do not drop your computer. . Do not place your computer in a location subject to: . Heat sources, such as radiators or air ducts . Direct sunlight . Excessive dust . Moisture or rain . Mechanical vibration or shock . Strong magnets or speakers that are not magnetically shielded . Ambient temperature of more than 35°C or less than 10°C . High humidity . Do not place electronic equipment near your computer. The electromagnetic field of the equipment may cause the computer to malfunction. . Your computer uses high-frequency radio signals and may cause interference to radio or TV reception. If this occurs, move the computer a suitable distance away from the radio or TV. . Do not use cut or damaged connection cables. . If your computer is brought directly from a cold location to a warm one, moisture may condense inside the computer. In such a case, allow at least one hour before turning on the computer. If any problems occur, unplug the computer and contact an authorized Sony service/support center. To find the nearest center or agent, see Finding More about Your VAIO Computer (page 5). Precautions > Handling Your Computer n113 N . To avoid losing data when your computer is damaged, back up your data regularly. . To lift or move your computer, grasp the main unit on the sides with both hands from behind the computer to avoid any damage to the LCD screen/touch screen. There is a risk of scratching the LCD screen/touch screen, for example with your waist belt buckle, if you hold your computer from its front. Due to the mechanical design of your computer's LCD screen/touch screen, some areas of the screen surface may become warm while you are using the computer for an extended period of time. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. . Do not exert pressure on the LCD screen/touch screen surface in any way. The LCD screen/touch screen is made of reinforced glass to implement high durability but is not 100% unbreakable. . Do not exert pressure on the LCD screen/touch screen frame. This may cause lower touch sensitivity or malfunctions. . Be sure to use your finger(s) for touch works. Using a thin or thick object for touch works may result in an unintentional operation as well as unwanted scratches on the LCD screen/touch screen surface. . Keep the LCD screen/touch screen, especially the frame sill, clean for good touch sensitivity. When cleaning the LCD screen/touch screen, be sure to use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe its surface and the screen frame. . Do not use or leave the LCD screen/touch screen under high-intensity light, for example direct sunlight, to avoid malfunctions or damage. . Using your computer in low temperature conditions may produce a residual image on the LCD screen/touch screen. This does not indicate a malfunction. When the computer returns to normal temperature, the screen returns to normal. . A residual image may appear on the LCD screen/touch screen if the same image is displayed for an extended period of time. The residual image disappears after a while. You can use a screen saver to prevent residual images. . The LCD screen/touch screen is manufactured using high-precision technology. You may, however, see tiny black points and/or bright points (red, blue, or green) that continuously appear on the screen. This is a normal result of the manufacturing process and does not indicate a malfunction. Precautions > Using the Power Source n115 N Using the Power Source See the specifications to find out about the configuration of your computer. . Do not share an AC outlet with other power-consuming equipment, such as a photocopier or a shredder. . You can purchase a power strip with a surge protector. This device helps prevent damage to your computer caused by sudden power surges, in an electrical storm, for example. . Use the power cord supplied with your computer or genuine Sony products.
