NOTES: • Connecting the unit to an external audio source will allow you to broadcast the external unit’s sound through the MKS8502’s speakers. • When connecting the external unit, refer to the owner’s manual of the external unit, as well as this manual. • When connecting the external unit, make sure the power is off and both units are unplugged before making any connections. CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL VIDEO UNIT Rotate the MONITOR switch to the AUX position when connecting the unit as per this step. NOTES: • Connecting the unit to an external video source will allow you to see the external unit’s video through the MKS8502’s monitor. • When connecting the external unit, refer to the owner’s manual of the external unit, as well as this manual. • When connecting the external unit, make sure the power is off and both units are unplugged before making any connections. 7 MKS8502.IT.O/M.QXD 7/17/03 9:44 AM Page 8 OPERATION CONNECTING THE MICROPHONE This unit has two microphone jacks which will allow you to sing along with your favorite songs. Before connecting, make sure the MIC VOLUME controls are set to minimum. CDG/CAMERA SWITCH ECHO CONTROL (REAR) MIC ON/OFF SWITCH 1 1 1 Rotate the ECHO control clockwise to increase the echo or counterclockwise to decrease the echo. When connected to an external TV, slide this switch to the CAMERA position to see the image from the camera on the external TV. During playback of a CD+G disc, slide to the CDG position to see the song’s lyrics on the external TV. To turn the microphone on, slide the ON/OFF switch, located on the side of the microphone, to the ON position. To turn the microphone off, slide the ON/OFF switch to the OFF position. For the sound effect microphone, please refer to pages 15 and 16. NOTE: During playback of a CD or CD+G disc, the camera's images can still be observed on an external TV if the CDG/CAMERA switch on the rear of the unit is set to the CAMERA position. BALANCE CONTROL AUTO VOCAL CONTROL (AVC) NORMAL PLAYBACK: Rotate the BALANCE control clockwise to decrease the left speaker’s sound or counter- clockwise to decrease the right speaker’s sound. KARAOKE PLAYBACK: Rotate the BALANCE control clockwise to decrease the music sound or counterclockwise to decrease the vocal sound level. 1 When the vocal feature is activated, the vocals on a multiplex recording are muted as soon as the singer begins singing into the microphone. When the singer stops singing, the vocals are automatically unmuted. Adjust the AVC control for the best balance between playback and microphone levels. IMPORTANT: This feature only works with multiplex CDs. 8 MKS8502.IT.O/M.QXD 7/17/03 9:44 AM Page 9 OPERATION (CONTINUED) PLAYING COMPACT DISCS NORMAL PLAYBACK (For karaoke, please refer to page 13.) Press the POWER button to turn the unit on. 1 The CD player will read the table of contents on the disc and the total number of tracks on the disc will appear in the display. 4 Press the CD Door OPEN/ CLOSE button to open the CD compartment door. Place a CD in the compartment, with the printed label side facing up. Press the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button to close the CD compartment door. 3 Rotate the MONITOR switch to the CD position. 2 Press the Play/Pause (..) button to begin playback on Track 1; the PLAY/PAUSE indicator will light. 5 Adjust the MAIN VOLUME control as desired. Playback will continue until all of the tracks on the disc have been played. 6 To stop playback before the disc ends, press the Stop (¦) button. The disc will stop and the display will show the total number of tracks. 7 After the last track has been played, the disc stops auto- matically and the display shows the total number of tracks on the disc. If you are finished listening, press the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD Compartment door. 8 Remove your disc, press the CD Door OPEN/CLOSE button to close the CD Compartment door and press the POWER button to turn the unit off. 9 9 MKS8502.IT.O/M.QXD 7/17/03 9:44 AM Page 10 OPERATION (CONTINUED) CD PAUSE CONTROL 1 2 During CD playback, if you wish to pause the disc momentarily, press the Play/Pause (. ) button. Playback stops but the disc continues to spin and the PLAY/PAUSE indicator will blink. Press the Play/Pause (. ) button again to release pause and resume normal CD playback; the PLAY/PAUSE indicator will light. TO BEGIN PLAYBACK FROM A SPECIFIC TRACK After you insert the disc into the CD player and the total number of tracks appear on the display, you may press either the Skip/Search ( ) . or ( ) . button to select a specific track for playback. 121 When the desired track number blinks in the display, within five seconds, press the Play/Pause (..) button.
