With this software application, you can enhance the Windows power management functions to ensure better operation of your computer and longer battery life. Selecting a Power Plan When you start the computer, a power status icon appears on the taskbar. This icon indicates what kind of power source you are currently using. Click this icon to display the window that shows your power status. To select a power plan 1 Right-click the power status icon on the taskbar and select Power Options. 2 Select your desired power plan. To change the power plan settings 1 Click Change plan settings on the right of your desired power plan in the Power Options window. Change the Sleep mode and display settings as needed. 2 If you need to change the advanced settings, click Change advanced power settings and go to step 3. Otherwise, click Save changes. 3 Click the VAIO Power Management tab. Change the settings for each item. 4 Click OK. Some features and options in this section may not be available on your computer. See the specifications to find out about the configuration of your computer. About Graphics Modes with Graphics Accelerators When connecting the docking station to your computer, you can use two graphics modes. Depending on the number of external displays connected to the computer and the docking station, your computer automatically switches a graphics mode to the optimal graphics mode. ! While a graphics mode selection is in progress, your computer screen may go blank or temporarily show some noise or flicker. This is normal and does not indicate a malfunction. Computer Display mode In Computer Display mode, your computer enhances its graphic performance by using the graphics accelerator on the docking station when images displayed on the computer screen. This mode is suitable for when you use certain software applications, such as game software, on the computer screen. ! You cannot view images on the external display(s) connected to the docking station in Computer Display mode. . External Display mode In External Display mode, you can extend your desktop across the external display(s) connected to the computer and the docking station. This mode is suitable for when you play a video game only on the external display(s) connected to the docking station. The graphics accelerator on the computer is used to display images on the computer screen or the external display(s) connected to the computer and the graphics accelerator on the docking station is used to display images on the external display(s) connected to the docking station. ! Be sure to close certain running software applications, such as game software, video playback software, or web browsers, before performing the following operations, otherwise the software may not work properly. -Drag an active application window from one display to the other(s). -Change the display output destination. -Connect or disconnect the external display(s). -Change the resolution of your computer screen or the external display(s). Customizing Your VAIO Computer > Selecting Graphics Modes n133 N Selecting the Graphics Mode Manually You can manually select your desired graphics mode. To select the graphics mode manually 1 Press the Fn+F7 keys. 2 Click Settings. 3 Select your desired graphics mode and click OK or Apply. . You can also select your desired display output destination in the Settings window. If you use the Intel® Wireless Display (installed on selected models only), disconnect the docking station from your computer or disconnect the external display(s) from the docking station and select External Display mode. Customizing Your VAIO Computer > Changing the Display Language n134 N Changing the Display Language On models with Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise, you can download and install your desired language pack. See the specifications to find out about configuration of your computer. ! To download a language pack, your computer must be connected to the Internet. For information on how to connect the computer to the Internet, see Using the Internet (page 66). To install a language pack 1 Click Start, All Programs, and Windows Update. 2 Click xx (number) optional updates are available. 3 Select the desired language pack from the list. 4 Click OK to start the download and installation of the selected language pack. To change the display language 1 Click Start, Control Panel, and Clock, Language, and Region. 2 Click Region and Language. 3 Select the Keyboards and Languages tab. 4 Choose a display language from the drop-down list. 5 Click OK.
