Howling could be produced depending on the location of microphones relative to speakers. This can be remedied by: 1. Changing the orientation of the microphone(s). 2. Relocating microphone(s) at a greater distance from speakers. 3. Lowering volume levels. Input sensitivity knob Use the input sensitivity knob to adjust the input level. In order to record at the best possible audio quality, adjust the input sensitivity knob until it is as high as you can get it without causing the input/output level indicator to light in red. Recording a mic or guitar Guitar/bass Mic Adjust the input level Adjust the input level Connect to INPUT 2 Turn this toward the right of center if you want the sound from the input jacks to be louder than the playback from the computer. This makes it less likely that clipping noise will occur. Sample rate select switch Set this to the same sample rate that you’ve selected in your recording software. After you’ve changed the sample rate setting of the UA-101, you must cycle the power to the UA-101 in order for the setting to take effect. Direct monitor volume This adjusts the balance between the monitor volume and the volume of the audio playback from the computer. Using the Direct Monitor volume control to adjust the volume will not affect the recording level. Phantom power switch If you’re using condenser mics, turn on the phantom power switch. * If you’ve connected a device that does not require phantom power, you must turn the phantom power switch off to avoid damaging your device. Basic connections and settings Recording a digital signal Basic connections and settings Recording a digital signal Set the sample rate Set this to the sample rate of your digital playback device ON CD/MD/DAT player, hard disk recorder, etc. Connections Connect your digital audio device to the digital input connector. Sample rate select switch Set this to match the sample rate you’ve selected on your digital audio playback device and in your recording software. After you’ve changed the sample rate setting of the UA-101, you must cycle the power to the UA-101 in order for the setting to take effect. You can’t record digital signal if you’ve selected 192 kHz. Digital input switch Turn this on so that the UA-101 will synchronize to the digital signal being input to the digital input connector. If the UA-101 is synchronized to the incoming signal, the SYNC indicator will light green. If the indicator is blinking green, synchronization has not been achieved. Please make sure that the sample rate of the connected digital device matches the setting of the UA-101’s sample rate select switch. Direct monitor volume This adjusts the monitor volume. Using the Direct Monitor volume control to adjust the volume will not affect the recording level. 31 Basic connections and settings fig.various Connections Connect output jacks 1–8 to your external mixer, etc. Connect the outputs of your external mixer, synthesizer, etc. to input jacks 3–8.
