Backup and restore of DAOS enabled databases
Backup
With Data Protector 6.11, you can back up both DAOS and non-DAOS databases. The NLOs
belonging to DAOS databases can be backed up by FS system backup of Data Protector 6.11.
• Full backup of DAOS databases:
Al the databases are backed up. While backing up the NSF belonging to DAOS, the backup
size will be negligible to the extent that the sizes of attachments in mails are not accounted. This
results in reduced size and backup time.
• Full backup of NLOs
Al the NLOs which are stored in the DAOS path are backed up using Data Protector filesystem
backup.
• Incremental Backup of DAOS NSF and NLOs
The incremental backup of DAOS NSF and NLOs can be run separately as NSF backup and
filesystem backup.
Restore
Fol ow the standard restore procedure as described in the HP Data Protector Lotus integration
guide. The restore scenarios in this white paper apply to databases belong to DAOS.
• Full Restore of NSF and NLOs
Run the restore of NSF of the mail account in the Domino server (selecting the option “do not
perform recovery” ). If the deferred deletion interval is the default of 30 days, even though
the NLOs are not present in the DAOS directory, mail wil be restored with the appropriate
attachments. To get the NLOs back in the DAOS directory, run the ful FS restore of the NLOs in
the Data Protector restore window. If the backup image was older than the deferred deletion,
after restoring the NSF and NLO, run the fol owing command to resync the attachments with
mail:
'tell daosmgr resync force'
• Recovery of the NSF database and NLO files
Switch to the Restore context. Start the restore session with the following options after ful
database backup is done:
– Back up the archive logs that are created. (You need to modify the transaction logs to archive
and then restart the Domino server before running the archive long backup.)
– Perform recovery of the NSF by selecting the recovery option as “perform recovery”.
– To recover the respective NLOs of the NSF, run the command
> tell daosmgr listnlo -o missing.txt MISSING mail/administ.nsf’
This will list only the missing NLOs for the NSF. Using this list, Data Protector can restore only
the specific NLOs and then perform the resync as mentioned above .
Incremental restore
Restore from the incremental backup. Restore the NLOs from the incremental backup by selecting
the appropriate Restore session in the Data Protector restore window for the filesystem. After the
restore of both, run the resync command.
Point-in-time restore of NSF files (DAOS enabled)
Run the point-in-time restore of NSF files via the Data Protector GUI (database ful backup and
NLO ful backup are prerequisites for this). The restore of NLO can be done in two ways:
